The Earth Gave Me You

August 18th, 2008 by ailsa

you fear me don’t come near me
so pretty i’m alive,
you fear me don’t come near me
so pretty i’m alive

run away now, run away, run away
runaway now, run away

we’ll get through this i can prove
there’s more than light in your eyes
earth it’s true it gave me you so try

you read me don’t believe me
no reason i can find
you read me don’t believe me
no reason i can find

come and lay down,
come and lay, come and lay
come and lay down,
come and lay

we’ll get through this i can prove
there’s more than light in your eyes
earth it’s true it gave me you so try

we’ll get through this broken movie
as long as i’m in your sights
earth it’s true it gave me you so try

we’ll get through this broken movie
as long as i’m in your sights
earth it’s true it gave me you so try

we’ll get through this i can prove
there’s more than light in your eyes
earth it’s true it gave me you so try

underbar tanke

June 23rd, 2008 by ailsa

… i’ve probably posted these lyrics before. but i love them. *sigh* ….

anyway

8 days down, 4 to go. Our Rally is over… for another year, yet already people are asking for the dates of 2009’s rally. Please, if anyone reads this - wanna give me a moment to gather my thoughts about this one before you drown me with paperwork etc… for the next one?! this girl is ever so slightly tired.

that is all. thank you :P

[insert witty title about angels here]

June 2nd, 2008 by ailsa

Yes indeed, we saw no less than two angels this weekend.

The Angel Of The North:

angel of the north

The Angel Of The South:

angel of the south - greg gilbert

Middlesbrough was soggy, damp, drenching… infact it was any descriptive word that has anything to do with water. (you do the thinking…) But the rain didn’t stop us from joining in the fun at the Music Live Festival to see Delays, One Night Only and Ash. We had a little hello from Greg and Aaron at the fence afterwards, then ventured round to see the other bands. my brain is not in full thinking mode right now… so this blog is bound to be a little shite, but well… lets just say that Delays were definately the best band on stage that afternoon. no offence to ash and one night only, but the only reason they had so many people there and got so much support was because of radio one, because believe me, they are definately no better than Delays are. word!

So… we came, we laughed. it was a nice little adventure, albeit a little stressful as my car picked the best weekend to start throwing hissy-fits. sigh! here are a coupla pix from the weekend :)

all that matters is the music……

greg gilbert - delays
Live @ Nottingham City Pulse, 24.05.2008

Can you hear that knocking in your soul
No, you don’t listen
Can you hear that knocking overload
No, you don’t listen

Never see the high beyond the low
No wonder, you lay twitching
Do you share the rush to be alone?
Come over, we’ll go missing

We’ll go where there’s no snow
We’ll go and they won’t know
Just please don’t give me your word

Do do do, do do do do do do ah ah ah

Can you hear that knocking in your soul
No, you don’t listen
We’ll go where there’s no snow
Just please don’t give me your word

Do do do, do do do do do do ah ah ah
Just please don’t give me your word

All that matters is the music tonight
Just please don’t give me your,
All that matters is the music tonight,

But you don’t listen

So, we’ll go running, running til we start again
Yeah we’ll run, we’ll run away
Yeah, we’ll go running, running til we start again
Yeah we’ll run, we’ll run away
Yeah, we’ll go running, running til we start again
And we’ll run, we’ll run away

So… the show in Nottingham on Saturday was just fabulous :) there’s not much more I can say about it really. Greg was sounding a LOT better, although we did notice that certain songs had to be ditched due to the lack of high pitched-ness. (not that a regular joe would know that hahaha.)
After the Brum and Brighton gigs got cancelled, this was just what we needed (even though we actually had tickets to see Feeder up in Sheffield LOL!). The company was fantastic, the rain held out and we had a nice little chat with the guys afterwards. We also found out some goss on some upcoming festival dates :D “mmm” is all i can say!

Well how else could you wish to spend a saturday night?!

we stayed out too long, playing in the sun

May 12th, 2008 by ailsa

…fire in your eyes, fire in your eyes.
we stayed out too long, playing in the sun
fire in your eyes, fire! fire! fire! fire!
fire! fire! fire! fire!
yeaaaah the girl is on fire!

So… after a very non-eventful April, May got off to the best possible start!

I left for Holland on the 3rd to visit my lovely friends over there. Stina was there for the
weekend too which was a big bonus!! I arrived at Schiphol at around 9.30am (early morning, zzz!) and we made our way back up to Saar’s place in Alkmaar. After a quick trip to the supermarket, Stina and I made up some lovely rolls to take to the park. The first of many afternoons in the lovely spring sunshine!

After a while (and once Stina had finished making her flower-crown), we went back to Saar’s to get ready for ze party. my birthday fest to be precise :D and what a fanastic fest it was!!! We ate nachos, drank cocktails and got very merry! Cisca and Chantie came over with the most AWESOME birthday cake in the world, and Martin came a bit later. It was cool to finally meet him! They all sang happy birthday to me (in both english and dutch) and then we tucked in (i tasted very good btw… :P )

Sunday was nice and warm again so we decided to head over to the beach at Bergen aan Zee. Well…. We made it to Bergen, waited for the connecting bus for about 40mins and then decided that it wasnt coming! So we wandered around the town (very pretty!), got ice cream and munched it in a church garden. After that we found a bar and had some nice coke and bitterbollen *mmm*. What more could you ask for on a sunny sunday afternoon!? We went back to Saar’s, had some delicious soup and watched a movie.

On Monday we headed down to Haarlem for some touristy stuff and also for the Liberation Day Festival. We roamed through the town centre, had some lunch and then headed down to a very packed park to see Juliette and the Licks. Very Cool. We had to leave before the set finished cos Stina had a flight to catch, so we made our way back to Schiphol. After a teary goodbye Saar and I went to Starbucks for a much needed frappacino. Got the train back to Alkmaar, enjoyed some more soup and watched some TV.

Tuesday - more like HOTDAY. a nice day to spend outside wandering around Zaanse Schans down in Zaandam. I finally got to see a working windmill and sat in the most massive clog you could ever imagine! We got pretty sunburnt, but had a great afternoon out. Its always nice to just chill :) Got back to Alkmaar and relaxed by the TV for a coupla hours.

On Wednesday we went down to Amsterdam pretty early to beat the queues at Anne Frank Huis. What a fascinating place. I still can’t quite believe just how bad it all was. Now all I have to do is actually read the book *searches it on amazon…*. We went up and down the Canals, had lunch in a lovely Cafe, searched for a Church and then went on the obligatory sightseeing boat-trip. I love them! :D . After the trip we went down to the Dam, took some pics and then carried on down to the Begijnhof… nice little enclosed neighbourhood in the heart of the city just for women :) i could soooo live there! we wandered up the street to the Croc shop and both found ourselves in the possetion of some lovely shiny CROCS! We shopped a little more and then took the tram back to the station. We got a bit lazy and had some take-away chinese for dinner, watched a LOT more Friends and went to bed.

Thursday - lazy morning, hectic afternoon, wonderful relaxed evening! We arrived in Utrecht just after two and went to have a little picnic near the Dom. it is sooo beautiful there! I am still in awe of the amazing architecture over there. In every city there is something so unique and so beautiful! After our lunch we headed back to the station and got the train to Gouda where Eugene was waiting for us! We walked into the town, saw the gorgeous town hall (again, amazed by the cute architecture!) and then carried on to Eugene’s place where Marielle and the kids were waiting. Minko was hyper as ever, but poor little Evy was sick with a fever! We played some disney trivial pursuit with Minko and then enjoyed some lovely dinner, followed by table-football games! oh, and Munkeh finally met up with Gijsje! yay!! after a nice chat and a look at Gessle’s brick of a book, we got the train back to Alkmaar and then headed to bed.

Friday was spent wandering around Alkmaar :) we stayed and watched the Kaasmarkt for a while and then looked around the older parts of the town centre, before having some delicious ice cream! We stopped for lunch in a little bagel store and then made our way down to Rituals. teehee. I can’t wait til the one in Cambridge opens!!! We went home around 3pm, watched some more Friends DVDs and then Saar made delicious pannekoeken for dinner. with bacon and syrup *drools!*

On Saturday we went down to Cisca’s place in Hoofddorp. We loaded everything on the bike and went to the park for a braai. It was such a fun afternoon! Martin joined us and we had hotdogs and toasted marshmallows. We ate, we drank, we laughed. and we got sunburnt! After a long day Saar and I crashed on Cis’s couch…. Sunday was an early one cos I had to fly home!

Well… now that I’m back home… I am pretty sure that my week in NL was the only summer I’ll be seeing this year!

Freebird

April 2nd, 2008 by ailsa

If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me?
For I must be travelling on, now,
‘Cause there’s too many places I’ve got to see.
But, if I stayed here with you, girl,
Things just couldn’t be the same.
‘Cause I’m as free as a bird now,
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can’t change.

Bye, bye, its been a sweet love.
Though this feeling I can’t change.
But please don’t take it badly,
‘Cause Lord knows I’m to blame.
But, if I stayed here with you girl,
Things just couldn’t be the same.
Cause I’m as free as a bird now,
And this bird you’ll never change.
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can’t change.
Lord help me, I can’t change.

- Lynyrd Skynyrd

its been a month almost since the last blog. a hell of a lot has happened since then, and i really should update this.

all in good time :)

JOIN THE RUSH 2008 - Gloucester

March 16th, 2008 by ailsa

Gloucester Guildhall – 16.03.2008

So, I ummed and aahed about this one for a long time. It was never my intention to go, because it’s pretty far from home, but in the end I just couldn’t resist. Really glad I went now, because it was the perfect way to end the tour!
After a nightmare journey back down from Leeds (sodding M1 again!), Klair and I set off from my place at around 2pm. We were actually hoping to be in Gloucester by then, but hey, shit happens. We arrived soon enough and for once, we had a pretty easy city to navigate. We barely even got lost! It was just too damn easy. We found the venue and then met Beverly and Jim. Took a little walk round the back and saw Marshy on the phone, but had a chat with him when he finished. Before getting some munch from the lovely Wetherspoons, we thought we ought to do something ever so slightly touristy and cultural and go photograph the cathedral. I’m pretty sure I’ve been there before… way back in the day when I was a moody teenager without an interest in anything beautiful. Oh how things change…

With the munch well and truly eaten, we headed back to B & J’s hotel and enjoyed a little champagne toast (in coffee cups!). Seriously, it was actually the most perfect way to end the tour! We left them to get ready and headed back to the Guildhall.
Saw loads of familiar faces, Allie, Barbara & Leon, Liz & Joff, and of course B & J met us in there a little later. I know when we go touring its “all about the band”, but right now I’m really enjoying hanging out with some seriously cool people!

Beer? - check! Setlist? - check! LETS ROCK!

The show kicked ass, they played Earth Gave Me You (it’s now the International Bonus Track, y’know!) and we even got a little snippet of Hey Girl again.

what a difference some good lighting makes! LOL

Klair and I managed to bag a couple of the set lists (they are pure comedy, Michelle has drawn crazy pictures all over them, including a very chavvy owl which I showed Aaron afterwards!)

We stayed around for a few minutes after the show and had the chance to have a quick word with Aaron and Greg. I also *finally* found out who plays the instrumental on the “before the show” mix CD. Rowly is the genius behind the mix, if any of you were wondering, and the instrumental is by The Go! Team.

WORD!

Eventually the mob of angry looking people (guildhall staff) made us vacate the premises, so we said goodbye to the boys and made our way outside into the cold. Nice. We stayed there for a bit chatting randomly (mainly about the tour in May, and the Tiscali gig next week… surprise surprise!) and then headed home.

May is officially PARTY TIME. As soon as I get back from my holiday in NL (sooo can’t wait to go back there!) it’s tour time again.

Next stop:

JOIN THE RUSH 2008 - Leeds

Leeds Cockpit – 14.03.2008

Sodding M1… that is all I can say about the journey to Leeds! Ever so slightly panicking, we arrived and met Allie at the Cockpit. Awesome little venue. Soon we were accompanied by Klair and also saw Girl On Fire, Fudster & Bloke. No idea when Jon arrived, but he was there! I missed the start of Scarlet Soho’s set because when one is without a car, alcohol takes preference LOL. Armed with some pop, I made my way back to the front. Leeds was a bit of a wild one. The crowd seemed a lot younger and really up for a good time. I mean REALLY. The place turned into a bit of a mosh pit for a while, it was well funny!

delays leeds
i have no idea what he was doing, but Rowly found it rather amusing!!

The boys kicked royal ass, Greg bounced around the stage, Aaron really gave it some, and y’know what, it even looked like Colin was having a wicked time! I think in terms of best shows on the tour, this one is right up there with Dublin.

Rowly - sans shirt (schaaawing)

We all descended on the Cockpit bar for a while before being chucked into the club *shudder* how can one go from listening to the greatest band in the universe to disgustingly chavvy shite?! Answers on a postcard please…

delays leeds
spot the difference

Had a boogie and then decided that the torture was just too much for our poor ears so we left Allie and Jon, Liz and Joff (and probably many more people that we know!) behind to enjoy the er… atmosphere.
After going back to the hotel and drooling at the nights photo-efforts, we finally managed to get a decent nights sleep. Pheeew.
